Reeves County New Courthouse
Project Type: New Construction
Location: Pecos, Texas
Project Description
The Reeves County Commissioners Court is revamping the home of its county government into a three-block County Campus to include a new Courthouse on the north block and a new Judicial Center on the south black. A Festival Plaza will be built in the middle to allow for community events and additional downtown parking. The existing courthouse will be demolished while the sheriff’s office and jail, also on the site, will be moved to a new Law Enforcement Center.
The new Reeves County Courthouse will feature three stories and 42,000sf, nearly doubling the available courthouse space. The limited square-footage available in the existing courthouse has presented the county with significant challenges and security-related concerns. The new design will provide solar shading by day and transparency by night, with a lighted tower visible along State Highway 285 and Interstate 20.
The County Court at Law, located on the second floor, will house a courtroom with expansive ceilings and a large gallery along with generous seating areas in both the tower and the side public lobby areas. The County Commissioners Courtroom will open to the third level of the tower, providing a functional and symbolic space for the seat of county government. All three levels will provide enhanced public spaces with enhanced security for court officials and public participants.
